It seems that the constitutional foundation of our nation’s checks and balances is eroding faster with each new day of Donld Trump’s presidency. Trump has now given the already bloated U.S. military free permission to engage in combat without consulting the Commander in Chief. Constitutionally, Trump himself should be consulting with Congress before authorizing acts of war, but that doesn’t seem to be prerogative. If the United States wants to remain a bastion of liberty and freedom, then it is headed in the wrong direction.
Trump is showing himself to be an egocentric dictator with no respect for the U.S. Constitution he swore to uphold, nor for the people of the countries that the United States relates to. The United States Constitution gives the power to declare war to Congress, not a President. What all this really shows is that our leaders from both parties do not want to be held accountable to the law. They do not want to control their cravings for power. They wish to belittle and ostracize those who did not support their election. Which has dangerous precedent in history.
Lord Acton once observed that power tends to corrupt. He finished by saying that if it is authoritarian, power corrupts absolutely. Trump has become a dictator, who should be impeached promptly by both parties for refusing to disclose his taxes and waging war without the consent of Congress. Republicans are showing themselves to be as incompetent at governance as their opposition has been. The real root of the problem is not the parties. It is the outsize egos of the leadership in both the parties.
What happens when a dictator is allowed to proceed without opposition? Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and Red China are all great examples. Trump exhibits many of the characteristics of a Latin American dictator. A populist who wins power by flattering the working class, and beating his opponents into submission. If citizens do not unite and crush the snake, it will continue poisoning the halls of government.
What confuses many people is the Hegelian dialectic used by the financial elites who hand money to our incompetent leaders. Two extremes of authoritarian slicks are hired to control the masses under the giant international financial cartels. The Hegelian dialectic pits the Nazis against the Commies. It confuses people into thinking their side is right. The truth is that both are wrong. In our zeal to remove one bad extreme, we often resort to propagating the other bad extreme, sending our nation into further financial ruin.
Polybius predicted that this gradual breakdown of democracy would occur as a part of his cycle of governments theory. What is terrible is that Russia seemed to play a large role in Trump’s election. Trump is copying his master Putin in behaving like an undemocratic demagogue who oppresses Muslims and vulnerable populations. Law-abiding citizens everywhere should unite against these tyrants, and get their congressional representatives hauling them off to an impeachment trial.
