Megachurch Closes After Founder Calls Women ‘_____ Homes’

Mark Driscoll, the protestant pastor and founder of the Mars Hill megachurch, is under fire for misogynist statements he made in the past under a pseudonym. A blogger was able to uncover the remarks and post them. The controversy focuses on anti-women and even anti-LGBT remarks he made in the past. As a result of the fallout, several branches of the megachurch have closed their doors.

It appears that Driscoll is just as big a misogynist (female hater) on the Religious Right as Katherine MacKinnon is a misandrist (male hater) in the feminist movement. MacKinnon is said to have stated that all sexual intercourse between a man and a woman is rape and by extension all men are rapists. Naturally, MacKinnon said no such thing. However, she did say that intercourse is violent by nature to women. In context of her larger discussion on sexual violence, this made the charge by critics a very logical conclusion to draw.

In the same vein, Driscoll once posted a remark as counsel to men that their male organ is a unit in search of a home (aka a female vagina). He stated that there isn’t any natural reason to search for a home from another man as he is likewise “homeless”.

His critics have now charged that he was saying that all women are nothing more than “penis homes”. While he didn’t actually make that statement, it is a logical conclusion that can be drawn from his remarks. The resulting controversy has adversely affected his personal finances and resulted in a partial closure of his megachurch operation.
