Make A New Life For Old Sweaters By Turning Them Into Something Toasty Warm For Your Feet!

It’s hard to let go of a favorite old sweater, but once it becomes too pilled, filled with moth holes or ragged it’s time to move on. Such is the cycle of sweater-life. But now you don’t have to trash those well-loved garments, with a little creativity and ingenuity you can transform them into a pair of comfortable sweater slipper socks.

All the materials required for this easy Do-It-Yourself project are: one old sweater, one good pair of scissors, some pins, yarn, a piece of chalk and a large darning needle. Sweaters that have a tightly knit weave work best for this project since the fibers won’t unravel after you begin cutting.

First, make an outline of each of your feet onto cardboard, leaving about a quarter-inch border on all sides. Cut out these patterns from the cardboard, which will serve as the soles for your new slipper socks. Place these patterns onto either the front or back of the sweater, trace around it with chalk, and cut out the sweater “soles” of your slipper and set these aside.

Next, stick your foot into the sleeve of the sweater to determine how much of your leg area you want covered by your sweater slipper. Now cut across the sleeve at that point. Using your pins, attach the soles that you cut out earlier and carefully pin them to the bottom of each sleeve. Using your yarn and a blanket stitch, attach each sole to the arm of the sweater.

Now you can comfortably slip each foot into your warm new sweater slipper socks and have your feet stay toasty through the winter. Check out the how to photos!
