Perhaps Jeb meant to say that colleges should push students towards degrees where it is believed there are more lucrative jobs, but the way he chose to phrase thos statement reflected his ignorance of the many successful Liberal Arts degree holders, let alone their usefulness to society. Already struggling to gain traction in light of his ties to his brother’s failed presidency and the feeling that he is the establishment candidate in a campaign marked by anti-establishment furor, this potentially could bury Jeb indefinitely.
Even worse for Jeb, who holds a B.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas, his comments were based partially on the incorrect claim that the most popular major in the United States is psychology. At present, the Department of Education places psychology fourth in terms of common majors.
Even worse, according to a report from the Health Resources and Services Administration, nearly one third of Americans reside in areas lacking mental-health providers, which illustrates that there is a need for more psychology majors beyond the deep fryer at Burger King. While this gaff on its own is not a cause for alarm, on top of his loss of key donors and lackluster debate performances, it seems like Jeb Bush may not be long for this race to the White House.
