The website works hard to provide its readers with insight into normal lifestyles in The Big Apple. Humans of New York has been in existence since November of 2010. It was started by a photographer by the name of Brandon Stanton. Stanton penned a letter to Republican presidential candidate hopeful Donald Trump that has spread like wildfire all across the Internet. The letter posting got roughly 200,000 shares approximately 1.5 hours after Stanton initially put it on the Internet, which is no small feat. Stanton put the letter on Humans of New York’s busy Facebook page.
Stanton began the open letter by indicating that he always aims to be unbiased in his career. This is something that’s clear to many fans of Humans of New York. When Stanton posts photographs of New York residents on his site, he rarely says anything at all about them. This is just one of the many reasons Humans of New York is such a big hit with fans everywhere. People deeply appreciate the fact that Stanton likes to remain neutral. Stanton’s silence enables the people depicted in his photographs to communicate their messages individually, without any form of outside assistance.
Stanton notes in his letter, however, that he has to make an exception in the case of Donald Trump. He pens that speaking out against the prominent businessman isn’t a political choice but rather a moral choice. He writes in the letter that he believes Trump to be a liar. He writes in the letter that he believes Trump to be a racist as well. Stanton states that Trump promotes violence with happiness and ease. He states that Trump is someone who believes that murder and torture are suitable options for those who are related to terrorists. He does all of these things to explain to the general public why he doesn’t think that Trump is in any way a qualified or appropriate person to be running for office in the United States. Needless to say, this photographer doesn’t want Trump to be president of the nation he calls home.
Stanton writes to Trump that he’s a seasoned journalist who has conducted countless interviews with people who follow Islam. He writes that these Muslims come from nations such as Syria, Pakistan, Iraq and Iran. He informs Trump that these people aren’t in fact the individuals who are so full of hatred. He tells Trump that he believes that the sole individual who is full of hatred is him.
The photographer is extremely passionate in this letter. He strongly disagrees with Trump’s claim that he’s a “unifier.” He strongly disagrees with the claim that Trump is presidential in any way, too. Stanton instead tells Trump that he’s a person who has promoted prejudice and violence in order to achieve his various individual goals.
Trump has been a highly controversial presidential candidate from the start. That’s why it’s not really a shock that Stanton’s open letter resonated with so many people all across the United States and the rest of the world. Stanton’s open letter truly shows what an influential person he is for people who regularly use the Internet. Its many shares show that people truly care about what Stanton has to say about life and politics. Its many shares also show that people are deeply interested in the political realm these days.
