Brittany Lynn Garrett lives with her husband and son. Their life is not much different than most families in their area, but one day they received a note that changed their world. The morning began just as any other, but then Brittany noticed her husband enter the room where she was getting ready. He was holding their son, and his eyes were filled with tears. She had no idea what caused her husband’s emotions, and like most wives, she suspected the worst.
Her husband, Christopher, was quick to reassure her that nothing was wrong. In fact, something amazing had happened. Someone had donated a brand new riding lawn mower to their family! While this would be an amazing gift for any family, the Garretts truly needed it. Christopher typically takes care of mowing the lawn.
He tries to keep up with this chore once a week, and he performs the task with a push mower. Push mowers can be tough to use, but using a push mower is incredibly difficult for Christopher as it causes him physical pain. During his time in the military, he served in combat and suffered a shattered pelvis. He has since spent countless hours in physical therapy and is able to walk again, but his limp makes it difficult for him to engage in certain physical activities like mowing the lawn.
Though Christopher was struggling, he never mentioned it. He mowed the lawn week after week, until one day someone noticed what he was going through. That kind stranger saw the Garretts’ need and decided to do something about it. They left a typed, anonymous note with the riding lawn mower that read,
“I hope this saves time for the things that matter most in your life. Thank you for your service and for my freedom. Sincerely, a grateful American.”
It makes perfect sense that Christopher was moved to tears. This note was incredibly kind as was the gift of the riding lawn mower. Now it will be easier and faster for Christopher to maintain his lawn. He will be in less pain, and he will be able to share his extra time with his his loving wife and precious son. The Garretts took to social media to thank their mystery gift giver. Even though they have no way to thank him or her personally, they hope their message of thank will reach the anonymous donor whose generous gift and kindness will never be forgotten.
