Do you love walking in to a great-smelling house? Do you also love to save money? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then grab a few easy ingredients and put your DIY skills to use to make this oh-so-easy air freshener that contains one secret ingredient.
Many of us use Febreze to banish odors from our homes. With kids, pets, and not a lot of free time, it can be a lifesaver for freshening up, but the cost can really add up. One enterprising woman named Jen found a way to make her own air freshener that smells a million times better than Febreze, lasts just as long and costs a fraction of the price.
Are you ready for the secret ingredient? It’s Downy Unstopables! Relatively new to the market, this product is made up of tiny beads of fabric softener designed to dissolve in the washing machine and make your clothes smell fantastic. Luckily, Jen figured out a way to turn the beads into a homemade air freshener than costs just 60 cents per bottle. Here’s how to make it:
Gather a quarter of a cup of Downy Unstopables (it’s available in different fragrances), four tablespoons of baking soda, eight ounces of boiling water, a funnel and a clean, empty spray bottle.
Begin by combining the beads and baking soda in a bowl. Pour the boiling water on top of the mixture and stir to combine. Wait until the beads have completely dissolved before moving on to the next step. It could take up to 30 minutes for the beads to dissolve. Place the funnel in the spray bottle and carefully pour in the liquid.
There you have it! An easy, inexpensive, incredibly wonderful smelling air freshener that is safe to use all around your home. Use it on carpets, furniture, pet bedding, drapes, or anywhere else that needs a bit of freshening. Enjoy!
