Heartbroken Dog Stares For Hours Out The Window, Then A Note Appeared With The Sweetest Message

Ever wonder what it is that your pet is staring at out from your window? Is it a squirrel scurrying around the yard? A bird walking across the porch? Another dog being taken for a walk? The mailman, UPS, or just a visitor? Could be any of these things. Or it could even be something more…romantic.

This is the exact realization that two neighbors recently came to after months of deliberating what could possibly be the cause of both their pets spending an exorbitant amount of time staring out their front windows. Turns out their pets were actually falling in love with each other, maybe even having some sort of pet courtship–all in the confines of their own homes. This dog and cat weren’t looking at anything that was outside of their window, they were gazing intently at one another from their respective spots.

This long-distance love affair went on for several months without anyone knowing it was happening. That is, until the owner of the cat went ahead and placed potted plants on the windowsill, that same windowsill where her cat would sit and stare at her beloved. And then suddenly, the two lovers were snatched from each other’s sight.

Over the next few days, the dog began to act more despondent than usual. When its owner realized what the probable cause of their dog’s depression was, she wrote a note to the owner of the cat and taped it to their window.

Brace yourself for some real romance here:

“Dear Neighbor,

This is going to seem ridiculous, but I thought you should know that my dog (who lives next door with me) is madly in love with your cat… and has been for probably 6 months! Three times a day, he puts his paws on our railing to look at him/her in your windowsill. Now that you have potted plants there, he is heartbroken… but keeps looking for your cat every time. Maybe your plants could switch to a different window??!

-From your neighbor and her adoring dog”

The reaction to the note could have gone either way. The cat owner could have thought that her neighbor was completely insane and perhaps put out even more plants to shield their cat (and also themselves) from their crazy neighbor. Or, the cat owner could have had the most perfect reaction to the note. Thankfully it was the latter. The owner of the cat replied to the note with a simple, “For True Love!” and put their potted plants elsewhere.

So the dog and cat are back at their staring contest. Maybe they have even met outside of their homes by now. Maybe they’ll even move in together. Who knows? The sky is the limit now that their love have been openly declared. Best wishes, you two!
