He Walks Onto Stage Nervously All Alone. What Happens Next? I Started Dancing In The Isle!

Sometimes, talent is about creativity rather than simply performing an assigned task very well. These five boys won a talent show with their very creative drumline performance.

Matt, Elias, Dylan, Nigel, and Jordan are five American teenage boys who decided to show off their skills and playing the drums for their high school talent show. They actually waited until only a week before their performance to prepare, but it was so impressive that no one would actually guess this from watching them. They call themselves “The Hot Scots,” and they not only emerged as the winners of their talent show but became stars on YouTube as well, becoming popular among millions of viewers.

There is no reason to believe that any of these boys have a Scottish heritage, and their kilts are mere props. However, their performance is full of humor and does, in many ways, pay tribute to traditional Scottish drumming methods. They hold their drumsticks just a Scottish drummers do, and the snare drum that they use is actually a variation of traditional Scottish drums.

The routine itself also contains many nods to the style of drumming. They also use a technique that is referred to as forte, seconds, or chips. What they do here is have the lead drummer play a phrase that is played again sometime later in the performance. Originally, this was done because not all drummers were able to read music. However, this became a tradition and is now used for its own sake.
