When called upon to step up and protect his sister’s children, randomwcuman an Imgur online image user, did just that. His two nephews had already spent 18 months in foster care. Their mother had repeatedly been incarcerated while their father battled a substance abuse problem.
As a social worker, randomwcuman understood the devastating effects foster care can have on children. So six months ago he and his wife chose to make the ultimate sacrifice and adopt his nephews. He knew the boys needed not just love but stability stating,
“They have never had beds or a home to call their own. They’ve always surfed from
place to place starting with whatever friend my sister and her slacker husband could
find.”
He knew it would be an adjustment for everyone. They had a daughter of their own, and his wife was working towards her master’s degree in Education Administration. He wondered how their family dynamic would change and would this put a strain on their marriage.
It wasn’t long before they all realized that this was the path they were meant to take. The boys fit in well with their younger sister. While randomwcuman acknowledges as parents and as husband and wife they endured some stressful moments, he also witnessed how big his wife’s heart really was. That only made the close bond they already shared that much stronger.
“If there ever was the test of a marriage’s strength this has been it. She is the [love] of
my life. Through it all we have been each other’s immovable objects when seemingly
unstoppable forces were upon us.”
In the end his wife was able to finish her master’s degree, the household has settled into a routine that works for everyone and the boys are receiving ample amounts of love every day in their forever home.
