Years ago, a man named Dave did something wonderful for a girl named Kristin Russell and her mom. He became the perfect father figure and stepdad to Kristin. Whether it was playing dolls or coaching her softball team, Dave was devoted to Kristin. And when he decided to marry her mother, he sold his beloved 1973 Porsche 914 2.OL that he’d been saving up to repair and used the money to pay for the wedding.
The car sat in a garage for a while, and eventually, it was dismantled for parts. Everyone has to make sacrifices sometimes, and while Dave never regretted his, he also never forgot about it.
In the years ahead, Kristin grew into a responsible young woman and joined the military. She knew that it was thanks to Dave that she had had such a wonderful childhood, and she wanted to do something for him in return. So she saved up her money and spent two years plotting her gift to him with help from others. It would be another 1973 Porsche 914 2.OL to replace the one he’d given up.
First, she had to find one. Kristin lived in Arizona, so when she located a car in California that fit the bill, she went and got it and then had it sent to a mechanic near her parents in Philadelphia.
Kristin then went to see her parents in person. She gave Dave a Father’s Day card that described how much she appreciated everything he had done for her. Dave liked the car but still had no idea what was in store for him. When a car’s engine revved in the driveway, Kristin told him to go take a look.
Even after he saw the 1973 Porsche 914 2.OL in his driveway, Dave did not suspect what was happening. He gasped with delight at recognizing the same make and model he had once owned, and he turned to Kristin and asked her who it belonged to.
Dave was in tears after Kristin told him and said he couldn’t believe it. As soon as he could, he got behind the wheel of his 1973 Porsche 914 2.OL and took it for a test drive. It was the best gift Kristin could have given him.
