Grandpa Saves Pennies Since 1960 – Here’s What The Bank Tells Him When He FINALLY Cashes In

When Ira Keys was 17, he received some valuable information from his father about the importance of saving money. This was back in the 1950s, and Ira did not have much money back then. However, he started saving every penny that he had. He put his pennies in his Folger’s coffee cans for 65 years.

Ira decided to cash the pennies in 2015. The pennies weighed about 500 pounds. He used a cart to take the pennies to a bank. The tellers were amazed when they saw all of the pennies. They had never seen that much change before. The teller told Ira that many people have a tendency to take pennies for granted. The man managed to save $816.

Ira plans to use the $816 and buy a room divider. He will also decorate the room with pennies in order to commemorate the life-changing advice his father gave him. He also plans to start a new penny collection.

Ira stated that he has got into the habit of collecting pennies, and habits are very hard to break. He does not believe he will be able to cash in as many pennies as he did before.
