An alumnus of Fox News was arrested on July 28. Orlando Silas was charged on two felony accounts of rape and sodomy. The arrest of the 57-year-old follows a recent convention of the grand jury in relation to the incident reported to have occurred on January 11, 2016. The identity of the complaint is withheld due to the nature of the case. However, the case documents indicate that the victim Mr Salinas is accused of defiling is not his wife.
In April 2015, Salinas was relieved of his duties from a local Virginia Television station WDBJ7 after close to three decades of employment because he refused to obey authority. His fall from public grace did not start there. Prior to working for Virginia television WDBJ7, Salinas was employed as a Fox News correspondent from 2000 to 2012 and was well known for his quite combative style of interviewing.
It is clear that Fox News has a long-ingrained culture of sexual mistreatment and male entitlement. Some of the occurrences involving Fox News staff include:
• Fox host Bill O’Reilly only recently settled a sexual harassment lawsuit
• Host Brian Kilmead joked that a woman who was assaulted on an elevator should instead have taken the stairs
• Fox News CEO, Roger Ailes departed because of sexual mistreatment charges. Over 25 women came forward with up to ten years long tales of harassment
After Orlando had left the news industry, he started a new job as a real estate agent. In December 2015, in the interview “Whatever happened to?” Salinas work superior Amy Hudson claimed that Orlando is a wonderful person. Individuals who know his nature can easily trust him.
The magistrate handling Salinas’ case did not approve of Amy Hudson’s assessment of his trustworthy character. The judge ruled that Salinas should be apprehended at the Montgomery County Jail without bond. Each account of felony brought forward against Salinas holds a minimum of five years and a maximum of life incarceration. Mr Salinas is scheduled to be in court on the 29th of October.
