Ivana Trump revealed last Wednesday that her former husband, Republican nominee Donald Trump, does not enjoy spending time with children. Ivana and Donald were married from 1977 to 1992.
At a benefit for Lifeline, an organization raising money in support of pediatric cancer care in Serbia, Ivana said,
“Donald wasn’t really interested in the children until he could talk business with them. When they turned 21, I handed them over to him and said: ‘Here’s the finished product, you can take them from here.’ She also claimed that she “brought up the children singlehandedly.”
Ivana Trump has been married three times: once before her marriage to the current GOP nominee and again after. She reportedly still speaks with Donald and even helps to guide his presidential bid. At the Lifeline fundraiser, she told guests,
“I’m watching the debates very closely. I tell him to stick to the big issues and to forget about Trump University and Miss Universe because no one cares.”
While she is fully supportive of her former husband’s run for president saying, “He’s going to bring change and no one is going to change him,” Ivana remains vocally critical of Donald’s current wife, Melania Trump, alleging that she “can’t talk” and doesn’t actually want to be First Lady.
In the early 1990s during their divorce, Ivana asserted that Donald Trump violently raped her in 1989. The incident was described in callous detail in a 1993 book written by Harry Hurt III.
When asked last year about the altercation, Donald Trump denied the story as being “obviously false,” and he claimed that the book was written by “an unattractive guy who is a vindictive and jealous person.”
