A few years ago, a very special puppy was born inside an animal rescue in Montreal, Canada. His mother was a pregnant stray who was found just a week before she gave birth.
When Hunter was born, he had a right leg that was underdeveloped. This made it very hard to nurse on his mother, as he wasn’t able to fight through his siblings. Seeing that he probably wouldn’t survive without additional help, the animal rescue team made the decision to hand raise him when he was just four days old.
This proved to be quite a demanding job for his foster mother. Hunter had to be fed by bottle and needed around the clock care. She had to take him everywhere she went during the first two weeks of the puppy’s life. By then, Hunter started to crawl and became stronger and a lot more playful. By the eight week, the puppy needed to have surgery in order to remove what was remaining of his underdeveloped leg, which has become infected. Luckily, the surgery was a success and he made a full recovery.
A couple of weeks later, Hunter was old enough to be adopted by a family that was happy to take him in. The foster mom was quite sad to see him go, but at the same time she knew that he would go on to have a much better life.
