And This Is Why More Than Ever New York City Needs To Stand Behind De Blasio, Do You?

The balance between individual freedoms versus law and order comes as a delicate one. Because of events such as 9/11 sometimes law has to predominant but when the law becomes more important than the individuals involved then the system swings back.

That is the platform Mayor Bill de Blasio ran on. The tactics of the New York Police has resulted in citizens being mauled. Understandable yes considering the amount of fear generated from 2001. Justifiable—never. The New York Police Force because of events, reduced budgets, and unreasonable expectations has been showing signs of stress. It has been acting out by using excessive force on citizens.

Now it publicly defied Mayor Bill de Blasio. The mayor has intentionally been pressuring and publicly naming the problems. The police force is upset. Should we stand by Mayor Bill? The answer is yes but it is not enough to just stand by him. As citizens it is our civic duty to find out what in the system caused all this. Who reduced the budgets to the point the police cannot function and why have they not been restored?

Who allowed the unreasonable expectations to blossom? Do we really need the same level of security that after 9/11 required? A set of leaders created that. A citizenship accepted it. A police force is protesting it. Fund the police. Bring in teams of organizations to assess, identify, and create a better system. Citizens need to speak up sooner.
