David Jackson Sr. was driving his car down a highway near New Orleans. He had two young children and their mother in the vehicle with him. According to police statements a truck, driven by an unnamed man cut Mr. Jackson’s car off.
The vehicles cut each other off several more times before Mr. Jackson fired rounds from a pistol at the truck. He fired several times. One round grazed the face of a 10 year old boy that was inside of the truck at the time. The round fragmented and some of those fragments lodged inside of the boy’s sinus cavity.
After the shooting, the driver of the truck struck Mr. Jackson’s vehicle in the rear several times in an attempt to prevent Mr. Jackson from fleeing the scene. Both drivers and their vehicles were apprehended by police not long after the shooting incident.
Mr. Jackson is being charged with several things including attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm by a felon and intent to distribute crack cocaine, as well as several traffic violations. The driver of the truck has not been charged, but can be at a later date.
The 10 year old was transported to Interim LSU hospital where he underwent surgery. The doctors attempted to remove all of the bullet fragments. It is unclear if they were successful in the attempt. If they were not, it is possible that the child will need to undergo plastic surgery.
As of Sunday the 22nd, Mr. Jackson is being held without bail.
