A 911 dispatcher in Clayton County, Georgia recently got one of the most bizarre and frightening calls that he has ever received. While working his shift a few days after Christmas, dispatcher Deonte Smith was getting ready to step out for his break when the call came through his line. The caller was a woman asking Smith if he would pretend to be her boyfriend…
The desperate woman had been abducted and the man who abducted her wanted her to call her boyfriend so he could hear her as he assaulted her. Instead, the quick-thinking victim called 911 and used Smith as her boyfriend. While on the line, Smith begged with the abductor to not hurt the woman as he listened to her being beaten and raped.
Thanks to the victim’s quick thinking, Smith was able to track the location of the assault while they were on the phone. Police arrived on the scene which was taking place in a parking lot at a novelty toy store. There police arrested 27-year-old Robert Timothy Giles. Giles is currently being held on charges of obstruction, rape, and false imprisonment. He is being held without bond.
Luck was on the victim’s side that night. Smith said that he was the only male employee working the phones that evening. The other male employee had already left for the day. Smith said that the call from the woman was one of the most extreme calls that he has ever handled in his career.
He has a daughter, a mother, and a sister. Hearing the assault on the woman left him very upset, even though he remained professional. He also refuses to take any recognition for his heroism that day. Instead, he credits the woman for being courageous enough to help save her own life. Smith said that one day he would like to meet the woman that he spoke with that night. Hopefully, Giles, that filthy excuse for a man, will rot to death in prison.
