A few months ago, Carly Bevier made headlines. She was only 15 years-old when she was diagnosed with cancer, but she was determined to fight to the very end. She did a cover of Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” and the video touched millions of people around the world, including Ellen Degeneres. Ellen decided to invite Carly to her show.
Carly told Ellen that she was inspired by the song and also stated that she made the video because she wanted to inspire other cancer patients. She stated that the lyrics correlatedfelt like she could relate to the lyrics of the song because her life had turned into a fight. After Carly told her story, Ellen asked her to perform the “Fight Song” along with Rachel Platten. The audience was brought to tears.
According to the American Cancer Society, 21,290 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year. It is estimated that 14,180 women die of ovarian cancer each year. Ovarian cancer causes more deaths per year than any other female reproductive cancer.
Fortunately, a patient’s prognosis is better if he or she is diagnosed early. Carly was on vacation with her family when she noticed that she had a strange lump on her stomach and went to the doctor shortly after she got back from vacation. The doctors informed Carly that she had a five-pound tumor growing inside of her. The tumor was surgically removed and after surgery, Carly underwent chemotherapy. Thankfully, she is now in remission and will hopefully continue to get better every day.
