Pizza is a simple, and creative indulgence that has captivated the western marketplace for decades now. Its versatility and delicious flavor is enjoyed worldwide. Dominating chains like Pizza Hut and Papa John’s that have tried to accommodate for their fans with a specific taste for years – whether it’s in crust, the ingredients, or the toppings. Pillsbury, however, has decided to blend two foods and courses together, taking the breakfast staple of waffles and fusing the core with a pizza concoction. The result? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Waffle Pizza…

This recipe can be easily made with ready-bake rolls or dough, a waffle maker, and pizza toppings. You have the flexibility to add absolutely anything toppings (or fillings in this case) you so desire – bacon, ham, pepperoni, peppers, etc. Though the recipe calls for sliced mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce (at least 2 cups), simply cut open the rolls (either in half or open a hole), place a cheese slice inside and add marinara sauce and toppings to your personal delight. Cook for as long as your machine recommends (normally around 3 minutes or so or until the dough is cooked to a light golden brown). And viola! It is as simple as that. You have an extremely easy and filling breakfast, lunch, or dinner snack.
If you’re feeling extra creative you could make your own bread or dough from scratch, with the added benefit of being able to customize your bread choice: white, whole wheat, ciabatta, whatever the hell you want. Make yourself the ultimate waffle pizza, baked with your favorite dough and filled with your favorite toppings.
Be sure to make sure any moist toppings or vegetables don’t potentially make the dish come out soggy. Experiment liberally one by one before making rash decisions on what you’re going to try and stuff your waffle with… don’t try to be a hero. You’ll screw it up. This is a waffle pizza not a double stuffed burrito.
