Cancer is a disease that affects not only the person who has it but the family and friends of that person. A rare cancer has consumed most of a woman’s face, and her husband has a few heartbreaking comments to make about the condition.
The woman had a decision to make. She could have surgery that would remove the cancer, or she could go without having the surgery and risk losing her life. The woman would have about three months to live. A downfall to the surgery is that if something would go wrong, she could die during the procedure. She knew that she had to do everything possible to fight. She had to fight for herself and her family.
The woman was a new mom and had recently got married when she started having headaches. Her face soon began to swell, and doctors knew that something was wrong. There was a tumor under the skin that started getting bigger and taking over her left eye, nose and mouth. The woman contacted a doctor in Africa who specializes in risky surgeries on the face. The surgery took nine hours. The growth was removed in one piece.
Another lengthy surgery was done to try to rebuild her face and keep a blood supply to the area. A second skin graft was a success, and the woman began eating and talking. Her husband told her the entire time that he sees her beauty no matter what, and he never left her side.
