Dog That Suffered Horrific Injuries Protecting His Owner Now Needs Your Help

A playful, one-eyed American Bulldog mix, who is a real hero, is in need of a forever home. Ruby is two years old, and what we know about her past is that she was living in a homeless camp with her owner in San Jose, California, when a tragic accident took her eye. Her owner was attacked by a person with a machete, and while Ruby jumped in to protect him, she ended up bloody and injured. Her owner took her to an emergency facility where she had to have one eye removed.

As she recovered at San Jose Animal Care and Services, her owner visited her once, and then the shelter lost contact with him. Unable to locate him, and with numerous other cats and dogs, Ruby was put on the list for euthanasia. But shelter staff recognized her worth as a hero canine and worked hard to find her a foster home.

While her foster parents love her, she needs a forever home. Her foster parents want to be able to save other pets from the same fate. Her foster mother says she loves people, loves to play and is a “goofball.” Coming from being an outside pet, she adjusted immediately to indoor living being house trained right off the bat.

She even knows what are toys and what to leave alone. Her only restrictions are that she needs a home with no other pets and no children. A plus — her adoption fees have already been paid.
