See How A Thrifty Family Of Four Turns This One-Bedroom Home Into A Castle

One family of four on Sauvie Island, Oregon has taken the term ‘less-is-more’ to an entirely new level. How exactly does a one bedroom house with one bathroom have enough space for four people? They certainly have no trouble making it work – in fact the total space for their home is only 570 square feet.

They realized some time ago people don’t need a a giant house filled with expensive stuff to achieve the American dream. As long as they have the necessities, they are perfectly content to dwell in a humble abode. Although the way they have designed their small space leaves ample room ad flows like a feng-shui river.  Jessica Helgerson, the matriarch of the house, is an interior designer and has remodeled the interior in a truly fantastic way.

In previous lifetimes the home was owned by hunters, shipyard workers, mechanics, and other families. But now it looks diferent than it ever has before with its a built-in bookshelf, a loft space, a living room and bunk beds that have been tucked into the wall. This house has it all! Even from thew outside you’d never guess it.

Living small is a great way to go in our ever more crowded modern world. Smaller spaces equal smaller prices and smaller footprints on the environmet. And this family, along with thousands of other’s on the ‘less is more’ train, are are living proof that people can survive, and (dare i say it?) even thrive in smaller spaces.
