Jean Hillard, 19 years old, was driving home from her friend’s house when her car slid off road into a ditch due to the unstable ice covered pavement. Jean knew someone who lived close to the location where she crashed and proceeded to travel to their house .
The surrounding environment was egregiously cold, with temperatures reaching below zero, however Jean continued to venture forward. After two miles of traveling into the glacial conditions, Jean inevitably succumbed to the surrounding weather and for six hours lay unconscious in the snow. The next day early in the morning, Wally Nelson proceeded to leave his house.
Wally however noticed something unusual this time, Jean’s body frozen solid on the ground. Wally drove Jean to the hospital however her body was so stiff even basic procedures such as taking her temperature couldn’t be performed. Astonished by her concrete like condition, even the doctors referred to Jean as an “ice sculpture”. Later in the night Jean’s body began to thaw, and by the third day her legs were mobile.
Nearly a month and half later Jean fully recovered. This came to a surprise, especially to the medical professionals, since most similar cases in the past required intensive procedures such as amputation.
