On May 29, 2017, thousands of people in America celebrated what would have been the 100th birthday of John F. Kennedy. He was born in Boston on May 29, 1917.
He is known for being a man of infectious and honest pride. John not only encouraged people to serve their country, but he also promised to give people a country that was worth serving. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
In Boston, a birthday celebration was held at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum. Several other celebrations were held throughout the country. Steven Rothstein is the executive director of the library’s foundation. He stated that many of the ideas that John F. Kennedy had were timeless. He also stated that John F. Kennedy is a visionary who will never go out of style.
The National Peace Corps Association also honored John F. Kennedy. Glenn Blumhorst is the president of the Peace Corps. He stated that people who serve in the Peace Corps are a living legacy of JFK. Glenn stated that they responded to JFK’s call to serve the country. They feel like they are doing what JFK asked them to do by completing their national service.
