It seems these days the news is riddled with stories of unjust police officers taking things a bit too far in our communities. While many get off scot-free, one racist sheriff is now facing jail time for his deplorable actions. Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County was formally charged with criminal contempt of court on October 25.
The 84-year-old sheriff is accused of continuous racial-profiling of local innocent Latinos. Although Arpaio’s criminal case has been open since 2015, he still continued to run for office in spite of the allegations. After U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton’s order become concrete, it would seem his 7th term might be up for grabs.
Long after the practice was deemed unlawful, Deputies from Arpaio’s department detained and delivered immigrants to the feds without proper cause on his orders. In fact, there is evidence that the sheriff carried out these raids in an effort to gain the support of locals in favor of extremist immigration enforcement.
The renegade sheriff is scheduled to appear in court on December 6th in Phoenix, Arizona. He faces up to 6 months in prison and can expect a possible felony on his record, sabotaging his political career. His conviction will hopefully serve as a wake-up call for law enforcement nationwide. Such racist acts cannot be tolerated in this society any longer.
