Kathryn Smith is only 23 and is spending quite a bit of time in prison. She was charged with the murder of her daughter after she hit her in the chest, and she was convicted in April. Smith has been in prison since then, and she recently found out just how unforgiving people can be when they are behind bars.
Smith’s daughter was 21 months old when she was taken to the hospital after being hit. Neighbors heard the little girl screaming for her mommy and daddy to stop. She died from a tear in her heart.
Smith hit the little girl so hard that the child bit through her tongue. When Smith went to court, she was sentenced to 24 years in the Foston Hall women’s prison. Shortly after going to the facility, two women jumped her in a stairwell. There were about a dozen others who saw the attack, but they didn’t do anything to stop the beating. It was all captured on a video positioned in the area.
The attack lasted for about four minutes. Some of the women had been planning to attack Smith ever since they found out why she was in prison. Guards knew that the other women didn’t really have a lot of sympathy for Smith, but they didn’t do anything to stop the attack.
