Here’s a pet rescue story that will break your heart…but then leave you smiling!
Maria, a young dachshund, was horrible mistreated by her owners. She had a terrible flea infestation that left her malnourished and anemic. She was covered with infections and terrified of people.
Worse, Maria was paralyzed from the middle of her rib cage all the way to her tail. Even though she was paralyzed, her owners forced her into a pregnancy so they could sell her puppies.
When they learned she’d only be able to give birth with an expensive C-section because of the paralysis, they abandoned her.
Enter Friends of Emma, a Texas rescue that swooped in to give Maria another chance.
To everyone’s amazement, Maria gave birth to seven healthy puppies, via C-section! The puppies, dubbed the Von Dapp Family — after the Von Trapps in “The Sound of Music” — have almost all found new homes.
But Maria’s miracle wasn’t over yet. Her rescuers were determined to help her heal. After months of intense therapy, Maria learned to love and trust again.
Even more amazing, Maria is now walking! Thanks to the therapy, she’s able to run, play and wiggle her tail just like a regular dog.
