The conventional wisdoms says that when you purchase new furniture, you want it to last for a long time, not take an electric-powered jigsaw and start slicing holes through it. So, why would anybody want to do just that?

Almost all kids enjoy playing and being creative, but that often translates to a mess that needs to be taken care of afterwards. Usually more creative they get, more mess there is to clean afterwards. The dream of many parents is to make organizing that mess fast and effortless. This is especially true of Lego blocks as many kids find themselves enjoying 500-piece sets whose parts later find their way inside sheets of parents’ beds, under their feet and into household pets’ mouths.

Sarah, a mother of a kid with a deep affection to Lego blocks, decided to get a table from IKEA and place it inside her kid’s bedroom. Except she decided to tweak it a bit and make the most out of it, turning it into one very cool Lego-playing station.

She started the project by purchasing Ingo dining table as well as two Trofast buckets from IKEA. Using provided instructions, she completely assembled the table together as if it was going to be used in the ordinary fashion. Then she measured sizes of her buckets and drew their exact dimensions on the table.

With the help of her jigsaw, she cut along those lines, and then used a sandpaper to smooth all of the rough edges out. The table might have looked weird for a while with two symmetrical and rectangle holes, but it did not stay that way for a very long.
Before proceeding to the next step, Sarah decided to spray paint the table white and use a clear sealant to protect its surface. That gave the table very neutral and child-welcoming look.

When the pain dried and its fragrance disappeared, then the only thing left to do was to drop the buckets inside the holes and fill them with all of the Lego pieces.
Her child was already ready to sit at the table and enjoy his toys. But Sarah made it even more interesting by taking a few of his silver-colored Lego boards and glowed them one right next to another on the surface of the table. She used regular super glue for her adhesive solution.

It took but minutes to dry, and then it was time for her kid to enjoy his new play table, permitting insides of mommy’s shoes to finally be Lego-free.
