She Took The Covers Off Her Light Switches And tried THIS – Now Everyone’s Wants Them!

If you’re looking for a simple change that will have a big impact in your home, you can take on this project with a minimum of money. It’s an inexpensive update that doesn’t take much time at all, and it can be performed in every room of the home.

Supplies

  • Glue
  • Picture Frames
  • Spray Paint
  • Decorative Paint
  • Embellishments
  • Time

Potential Themes

  • Gothic for a teenager’s room
  • Princess for a little girl’s room
  • Bling for a beautiful dining room
  • Sports themed for a boy’s room
  • Floral for a bedroom

The first thing you should do in this process is to remove the current light switch plates from the wall. You can do this easily with a screwdriver. You don’t need to worry about shutting off the electricity when removing the plate either.

You’ll need to shop for a picture frame that will fit around the switch plate. Whether it’s a single, double or triple switch, you’ll need to find a frame that will fit around the plate. To make it easier to find the right size, you can either measure the plate or take it to the store with you. If you’re changing more than one switch, you might want to measure the plates instead of bringing them all with you.

Places to Find Frames

The next step is to find the frames. You can go as simple or as ornate as you like for the design of the room. If you plan on adding embellishments like decorative rhinestones or a tiny, ceramic baseball, you might want to stick with a plain frame.

You might want to search for a cheap frame at the dollar store. They have a variety of sizes for cheap. If you want something a bit more unique, you can search the local thrift stores in your area to find stylish, inexpensive frames. The color doesn’t matter because you’ll be spray painting them later.

Purchasing Supplies

You can head to the craft store, local department store or dollar store to find most of the supplies you need for this project. You’ll need spray paint or primer for the plate and the frame to ensure that they match before adding embellishments. Another important supply is strong glue. It would be a shame to work so hard on a frame that falls apart.

Making the New Switch Plates

Once you have all your supplies including your frames, you can attach the frame to the switch plates. Place the plates behind the frame, so you can lay the plate flat on the wall. Allow the glue to dry fully before moving on to the next part of the project. It makes sense to glue all the plates and frames at the same time so they can dry together.

After the glue has dried, you can spray paint the entire frame and plate to one uniform color. If you’d like to leave it one color, you’re done. Wait for the paint to dry and attach the switch plate back on the wall.

If you’d like a more ornate frame, you can now paint the edges in gold, cover the entire frame in bright pink or add your embellishments depending on the theme of the room. Once you’ve added color and bling, you should let it dry before screwing the plate back on the wall.

Once you’ve attached the plate, you are done and can enjoy your beautiful new switch plates. Everyone will wonder how you found such a stunning, beautifully-designed plate. You can happily tell them you did it yourself.
