New parents Kyle and Hannah Yarker were thrilled when they found out that Hannah was pregnant with twin girls. Throughout the pregnancy, friends joked with them that the twins may come out different colors since Kyle is a mixed race and Hannah is white. To the parents surprise, it seems that is what has happened.
The twin girls, Myla and Anaya are fraternal twins meaning that there were two separate eggs that became fertilized with two separate sperm from the father, and grew apart in two different amniotic sacs. The girls, who are now 10 months old, were born last April. Since then they have been normal, adorable babies.
However their parents have noticed that Myla has definitely started to take after Kyle’s physical features with his dark eyes, dark hair, and darker skin. While her twin sister Anaya favors her mother’s lighter complexion and light-colored eyes. The proud parents say that they are often stopped while they are out in public by strangers wanting to meet the beautiful girls and ask about their origins.
Statistically speaking, the chances are very low that an interracial couple would have twins with differing skin tones. However the Yarkers are proof that it can happen. The odds of it happening are about 1 in 500.
