Ivena Smailes may be 105, but she hasn’t outgrown a mischievous streak. Last year for her 104th birthday, she tried to persuade the staff at Addison Court Care Home in the UK to climb a tree. This year she went one better and requested a birthday cake delivered by a fireman with tattoos.
Aunty Ivy, as her friends at the home call her, wasn’t really expecting a fireman with tattoos, as the nurses there report “she’s got a fantastic sense of humor.” So imagine Ivena’s amazement when a fireman in full regalia actually did climb into her third-floor window with a Victoria sponge cake, complete with candles.
The fireman came up the ladder with the cake, then handed it off to a staff member so he could climb onto the balcony. Then he got down on one knee and presented Ivena with the cake to the accompaniment of laughter and cheers.
She and the handsome hunk were quickly the center of attention at her birthday party. But that wasn’t all. A total of 5 firemen showed up, and Ivena had her picture taken with them, sporting a great big smile.
Ivena also held up a picture of Queen Elizabeth, who she has seniority on by 15 years. It was a birthday to remember. Happy birthday, Aunty Ivy!
