The Syracuse Police Department reacted quickly when they recieved a tip that a dog was locked in a cage and in hidden in a basement. When they went to check it out, there were two dogs left in a cage starving , malnourished and in very poor health. As far as the police could tell, the dogs had been left in the cage for several years – it was a mother dog and her son. The men who left her in that cage were promptly arrested for abusicve treatment of animals.
A local shelter took them two dogs in, naming the mom Jada and the son Jinx. After being looked over, the caretakers discovered that Jada had cancer, but by the time the cancer was discovered it had already spread to Jada’s lungs. Instead of focusing on curing Jada’s condition, the shelter created a bucket list for her. It was a list of things they believed she deserved to experience before she died. Since Jada spent most of her life suffering so she had a lot of catching up to do.
Jada’s bucket list included some basic dog experiences like learning a new trick and enjoying peanut butter – but it also included more luxurious items such as eating a steak and meeting the mayor of Syracuse. She was able to check off several of the items on her list. She became a TV star by appearing on the local news. The fire department allowed her to ride on one of their fire trucks and she was even given the opportunity to ride in a cop car.
She rode in the front seat, of course. She was able to check off the most important item on her bucket list. She watched her son, Jinx, find his forever home. After being trapped in that cage with him for his entire life, she got to see him find true happiness before she passed away. Her life story may not be the happiest, but it certainly ended on a happy, high note.
