They may not possess dance skills sufficient to make them precision dancers onstage with Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga, but these eight young ladies created amazing optical illusions with their outfits.
Each lady wore a black and white outfit where the half of the dancers had the entire right side of the outfit white and the left side black. The other four had the colors in the reverse order. Each of the girls were place in a line so that they were paired with someone of the opposite patterned outfit.
Once the music began to play, the ladies danced with their hips touching one another. This created the illusion of their being a headless person dancing between them. As the stepped forward, it was as if they were dragging this headless body forward with them. The illusions got more interesting as the girls would raise one leg off to side. It made it appear as if the headless body was kicking its keels in the air.
The ladies then proceeded to swing one leg forward and backwards. This motion created the illusion of a headless body swinging its legs as if holding onto monkey bars or a tree branch.
As the ladies swung a leg from right to left, the audience laughed aloud at how it appeared that these mysterious legs seemingly separate from the girls’ bodies could move in such an animated manner. It just goes to show that sometimes the simplest of designs can create magnificent optical tricks.
