Michelle Obama, together with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will soon announce a program that will give all students free school meals, including breakfast.
They began this program in just 11 states, but starting July 1st it will span to reach 9 million kids. The program will help children “eat healthy meals at school, especially breakfast, which can have profound impacts on educational achievement.”
This program will end the unfair treatment to kids without the income to afford school lunches. Many schools stamp the hands of children who have run out of their lunch accounts, and give them nothing. Furthermore, it will eliminate all the paperwork associated with signing up for lunch accounts.
It’s becoming well known that hunger has a terrible impact on social and cognitive development, and that sufficient nutrition is extremely import to learning. Currently, more than one in five American children lacks dependable access to food.
