Did Teen Get Away With Murder Because He Was White & Rich?

Eric Boyles, who lost his wife and daughter in a car accident is extremely angry about the sentence for the teen who killed them.

Boyles told Anderson Cooper on CNN Wednesday night that, For “25 weeks, I’ve been going through a healing process. And so when the verdict came out, I mean, my immediate reaction is, I’m back to Week 1. We have accomplished nothing here. My healing process is out the window.”

Boyles’ family was killed in June when Ethan Couch, 16 years old, hit them as they were helping a motorist on the side of the road. Couch was highly intoxicated with a blood alcohol reading of 0.24, over three times the legal limit. Two others were killed, one victim paralyzed and one got away with broken bones. Cooper said to Boyles. “He has prior experiences with alcohol and the law. This is not his first offense. So you have a multiple offender who has killed four people who is not going to spend any time in jail — simply because, it seems to me, his family has money.”

A psychologist who testified at the trial said Couch suffered from “affluenza,” a term meaning that he had grown up too wealthy with a sense of entitlement.
