Commonly people use bricks, lumber, or even used tires an bags filled with dirt to make their homes. But how about using an old shipping container?
At first thought you might think there wouldn’t be enough room in one of these big metal boxes to live in, but these homes can actually be designes to use space highly efficiently. In fact, shipping containers are becoming more and more popular because of their potential for cheap, small, portable shelter. Some of these containers are flipped into rich houses for a mere $2,000, while others are made into affordable homes for homeless individuals.
Cubica, a Costa Rican company, has designed this shipping container to be sleek, modern, slim and sexy. It is not excessively spacious, but the way it is designed makes use of all the space that is available.
The home is a mere 160 square feet, but it can fit as many as four people, and it has a beautiful rooftop deck that can be accessed by ladder. There is also a great deal of cabinet space, an equipped kitchen with a fold out table, a bathroom, and sleeping quarters for anyone who is staying there, including a Murphy bed.
