When Carrollton, Texas police officers happened upon a suspicious-looking vehicle this past February, they were surprised to find a young couple asleep with a child inside. They’d had recently moved to Texas and were already working but were living in their car until they could find an available apartment within their budget.
The officers took pity on the family and decided to give them assistance instead of harassing them. The kind officers helped the family settle into a hotel room for the evening and got them some other necessities to help them in their time of need. A Carrolton city employee was impressed by the gesture and posted a story on the department’s Facebook page.
The community responded immediately and began bringing items to the police station. The couple received clothing, housewares, food, bedding and gift cards. There were also numerous donations of toys and diapers for the couple’s one-year-old daughter. The deeply grateful couple did not wish to be identified but expressed their endless gratitude for the generosity of the community. The two officers also requested anonymity.
This amazing act of generosity is especially uplifting in as recently the public and the police have been clashing violently and controversially. In this case, the officers truly did serve and protect, and we need more servicemen like that.
